The Great Xmas Tree Debate, Michelle Ma Belle Photography
Real tree or artificial tree?
Growing up, it was all about the artificial tree and all that tinsel….SO…MUCH…TINSEL.
When I met my husband, he wanted to go chop one down, and I can remember thinking… “people actually do that?!”
And that’s coming from a Valley girl!
The Real Deal
I will admit that since having a real tree, I can’t imagine going back to artificial. The smell alone is worth it! It’s become a our family tradition; we head over to the tree farm, argue over which one is best, and then bring one home, with at least one miserable child. Good times.
Of course decorating the tree as a family is another Christmas tradition we’ve embraced. As children, my sister and I were not allowed to actually touch the tree or the ornaments or the skirt or the lights… we did get to watch though! When I had kids of my own I decided to let them participate and then quickly learned why my father forbid it.
Typically one to five ornaments are broken during the process; good thing we get new ones annually. The boys fight over ornament placement, how many ornaments they put on, and breathing space. Someone always ends up crying or cursing.
But it just wouldn’t be Christmas without it!
Mageau’s Tree Farm
If you’d like to get a real tree this year, I highly recommend Mageau’s Tree Farm in Ottawa South. They have stunning trees (as you can see in these images) and the small family-run farm is delightful – so are the owners xoxo
