Who Am I?
My name is Michelle. I’m a mother of three boys, a public servant by day and a business-owner-slash-professional-photographer by night (and day too, I suppose), a bit of a health nut, definitely a fitness junkie, an addicted online shopper, and the wife to a very patient and supportive man.
Like many “momtogs”, my interest in photography was sparked after my first child was born. What could possibly be more inspiring than that? I started off with a standard compact camera, quickly upgraded to something more advanced, and purchased my first DSLR in 2008. Wow, I just realized that was 10 years ago! I learned so much during that time by taking a plethora of courses, workshops, having an incredible mentor, and most importantly, with lots and lots of practice.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “The days are long but the years are short”. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly children grow and how quickly years fly by, even when you’re awake 23 hours of the day. This is why I love photography so much. It gives me the superpower to freeze time; the ability to cherish baby toes forever or to relive that feeling of pure excitement at a birthday party. All those little details, events, and emotions make up your family story and I hope to teach you how to be the story teller through photographs.
What's It All About?
The Snap & Chat Workshop is designed for moms who want to learn how to take more meaningful and creative photos of their family and daily life. This course is split in two 2-hr classes, one week apart, to allow students to digest the information and practice their new skills. We will cover some camera basics to help you achieve certain looks and styles, as well as how light impacts the mood and quality of your images. You will learn how to create moments, how best to capture them, and how to engage your children and inspire natural interaction with genuine emotion. We will also cover some basic post-processing techniques and you will have the opportunity to view and compare print and display options. Questions are encouraged throughout the course and there will be a portion of the last class dedicated to Q&A.
What Do I Need?
We do recommend that students have an advanced compact camera (with the ability to set manual exposure) or a DSLR, however it is not mandatory. The course is not specific to any brand of camera; we will briefly discuss using a smartphone camera as well. Classes will take place at our office in Ottawa South in an intimate setting where students can feel comfortable to share and connect. Students will have access to download a copy of the Workshop E-book which includes all material covered during the workshop; this will be provided following the first class.
The course content will include topics such as Camera Basics, Creative Composition, and Light. We will also cover some basic editing techniques as well as printing options. For a full course outline, contact us at email@example.com
The course fee includes two 2-hr classes in a 4-to-1 student/teacher ratio and an E-book of all material covered during the course. Students also receive a complementary fine art print of their favourite photograph taken during/after the course.
The course fee is $199+HST. Keep an eye out for coupon codes to save yourself a bit of coin.
As a student you will have access to a VIP Facebook Group where you can continue to share and learn long after the classes are done. You will also have to opportunity to attend our seasonal photography meet-ups for on-location practice and learning (dates & locationes will be shared with our VIP students only).
Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis. You will receive a confirmation of your registration (or tentative registration if placed on waiting list) within 24 hours. An invoice will be provided and payment is required within 3 days to confirm your spot. If payment is not received or arranged within that time, your spot will be released to the waiting list.
Additional course information will be provided to those registered one week prior to the course date.
If you have any questions regarding course content or anything else, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
NOTE: We anticipate hosting a round of summer classes which will consist of two evening classes. We will also be offering a modified version of the class for youth, ages 10-14.
